Abstract: The internet has become the unavoidable need of this current generation. Adolescents and young adults are more prone to use the internet. According toward, students spend an average of eight hours every day on social media. This shows a surge in online social networking, which has had a significant impact on young people’s engagement and communication (Pantic, 2014). Though the internet helps the students learn better, it has negative effects of detaching the students from their parents. Social media creates negative effects on teenagers that result in relationship issues and social anxiety. Young adults spend most of their time busing the internet for many purposes like playing, chatting and for watching videos. Day by day, internet usage has become an addiction to people. Internet usage has a great impact on the mental health of students. The use of internet-based gadgets is becoming common among people, so it is essential to keep checking on them which later turns into a habit. Like other addiction, internet addiction has to be addressed to help people to know the consequences. This study focuses more on usage of the internet and its effects on mental health on teenagers. This study tells theconsequencesofinternetusagefacedbyyoungadults.Thisstudyinvolvesbothqualitative(meta-analysis) and quantitative methods. Young’s Internet Assessment Test questionnaire which has 20 items with five-point scale was given to students through Google forms. The sample population consists of 75 college students. The Internet increases the commitments of the people and makes them detached from their responsibility. This study focuses on ways to use the internet in a useful manner without making it harmful.
