Abstract: Background: Labor is an emotional experience and involves both physiological and psychological mechanisms.The pain of labor is severe but despite this its memory diminishes with time.Objective 1.To assess the level of pain perception among primi gravida mothers. 2.To find out the association between pretest score of pain perception among primi gravida mothers with selected demographic variables. Material and methods: Quantitative approach and non-experimental descriptive design was adopted for this study.60 primi gravida mothers were selected as a sample by Non probability Convenience sampling technique.The tool consists of two sections. Section –A Consist of structured questionnaire to elicit the demographic variables and clinical variables and section –B consists of Mc caffery numerical pain scale was used to assess the pain perception among primi gravida mothers.Results:The present study results revealed that,regarding the level of labor pain perception among primi gravida mothers,during pre test 25% (15) of primi gravida mothers had mild pain ,55%(33) of primi gravida mothers had moderate pain perception,20% (12) of primi gravida mothers had severe pain perception and there will be an association between level of pain perception and primi gravida mothers age, type of family, number of antenatal visits. the result of the study concluded that majority of primi gravida mothers had moderate level of pain perception.The mothers may have inadequate knowledge regarding various types of pain relief measures like pharmacological and non –pharmacological management which is widely used during labor.
