Abstract:- A technology for the extraction of zinc oxide from spent scavengers of sulfur compounds has been developed. The process of dissolving zinc oxide in nitric acid is intensified by the circulation of the liquid phase. It is shown that when the spent sulfur absorber is dissolved in 30% nitric acid at 70-800C, the sulfur remains completely in the solution and in the undissolved sediment.

The active zinc oxide obtained from the spent absorber is finely dispersed. In the resulting absorber, ZnO crystallites have a size of 160-1700C.
